TJLP Statement on Murthy v. Missouri Decision, Preserving Right of Government to Communication with Social Media Platforms

Supreme Court ruled 6-3 finding plaintiffs had no standing to sue social media companies for communicating with the government

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Tech Justice Law Project (TJLP) issued the following statement regarding the Murthy v. Missouri decision about efforts to prevent the government from communicating with social media platforms about critical issues including public health, national security, and voting.

TJLP Executive Director Meetali Jain stated “Today the Court preserved the ability of government and researchers to ensure Americans receive true and accurate information from social media platforms on subjects ranging from disaster preparedness to foreign interference with elections. Contrary to the position advocated by right-wing activists and attorneys general, cooperation between the government and the platforms ensures our safety and security.”
